Students defy smoking ban

Refusal to comply could land Gorloks in student court

Students and faculty who flout the new smoking regulation could be disciplined by a jury of their peers, said university President Richard Meyers. The regulation - enacted late last semester at the recommendation of the Sustainability Coalition - prevents smokers from smoking within 30 feet of a university entrance.

Campus graffiti ceases

The increase in graffiti found around the campus came to a sudden end, according to campus officials. Last November, the Webster University campus experienced a sudden increase in graffiti, mostly in the area surrounding the parking garage. After three months, there have been no arrests, but the clean-up effort continues.

WU employees tax-free in medicine

Webster University's Benny card was a fixture in the wallets of more than 200 faculty and staff last year. Starting in 2007, employees could use the card to access funds in their medical savings accounts without filing receipts or waiting for reimbursement.

Sodhexo combats hunger through scholarship

As part of its campaign to fight the causes of hunger worldwide, the Sodexho Foundation is accepting nominations for the 2008 STOP Hunger Scholarship. According to the organization's Web site, the scholarship is being offered to all students from kindergarten through graduate school who have demonstrated a "commitment to fighting hunger in their community within the last 12 months.

WU Press teams up with other publishers

The Webster University Press is still in the very early stages of development, but has already co-published one book by photography professor Susan Hacker Stang and is currently considering other proposals. The WUP is an initiative under the auspices of Academic Affairs but operates as a unit under Emerson Library.

MISDEMEANORS AND MISHAPS

DECEMBER 4: 12:28 a.m.: Writing was found on the lower level of the garage. 1:45 p.m.: Writing was found on a Dumpster and on the east wall of the garage. DECEMBER 5 - 11: Six fire alarms went off in East Hall. DECEMBER 7: 10:56 a.m.: A student in West Hall was transported by her father to a hospital.
