Fight the powers that be

On Nov. 15 at the Old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis, colors of the rainbow and cheers of "Yes we can" from 1,500 mouths spilled down the steps, onto Broadway and onward into Kiener Plaza. St. Louis was one of many cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Manhattan, San Francisco and others where communities rallied in the streets to protest the California amendment, Proposition 8, to the constitution that defined marriage to only include unions between man and woman, thus banning gay marriage.

Thursday, Nov. 20 • John Pendergast comes to Pearson House, room two to talk about Shakespeare and the Oil Men at 10 a.m. The literary critic will discuss the idea that cultural commoditization fueled the world of high finance and economics. Friday, Nov. 21 • Webster University invites factulty, staff and students to the Thanksgiving Buffet at 11 p.

Civil rights battle not over

Court overruled Virginia's Racial Integrity Act of 1924, which required a racial description of every person recorded at birth and criminalized interracial marriage, and declared it unconstitutional. This also overruled the race-based legal restriction on marriage as stated in Pace v.

Feelings mixed about Mixed Martial Arts

Sports fans know about the brutality of American football and how players have a good chance being injured by hard tackling. Most of us are aware of boxing, and how lethal a boxer's jab can feel. And for those who've never boxed, I'm sure you can imagine how painful it would be.
