Legislation pummels student aid
As if anyone needed another reason to be worried during this recession, new Missouri legislation could add to the woes of students with need-based grants. If passed, the maximum amount of money that can be awarded at private and public institutions will drop by $1,750, which means trouble for students already struggling to pay Webster University's rising tuition.
ONE Webster makes poverty history
The Journal congratulates Webster ONE on its outstanding efforts in poverty eradication. The group's achievements have been recognized on a national scale by the ONE Campus Challenge, which this month listed the chapter among the top ten in the country. The final project to be undertaken by the WU chapter before the national organization declares a winner took place as this issue of The Journal was going to press.

As I sat in Marletto's Marketplace on March 19, the sounds of Latin America enveloped me. While it wasn't the most outstanding show of culture I have ever seen, it was one of the rare and few at Webster University. With this in mind I wonder at the fate of the cultural Gorlok, while the cartoon-ish and athletic Gorlok remain strong.

I was appalled and disheartened by the stance that The Journal took on a major issue in a small 3 x 3 square of page space. While this newspaper and I have had our differences in the past, this was by far the wildest and most irresponsible collection of words and ideas presented by The Journal in my three years here at Webster University.
WU needs mascot makeover

The Gorlok is a wimp. Webster University students have been tolerating the hybrid, mess of a mascot for nearly 25 years. It's time to adopt a new mascot that instills fear in our rivals. The Gorlok is a joke, not just on our campus, but also throughout academia.
