The UC Commons and Sunnen Lounge were full of students playing poker, blackjack and roulette March 2 for "Vegas Nite 2." Students had
the opportunity to win a variety of prizes and enjoy some free fun.

Student Activities Council (SAC) and Campus Recreation co-sponsored the event, and Peer Education Zeitgeist provided free mocktails, non-alcoholic cocktails.

Each participant began the evening with $500 worth of chips. Afterward, students cashed in their chips for tickets to enter themselves in the prize drawings.

The walls of the UC Commons were lined with strings of white holiday lights, and popular tunes boomed from the nearby sound system. Among the items to be raffled were DVDs, a CD/clock radio, a walkman, Starbucks and Quick Trip gift cards, a 12-pack of Charmin toilet paper, a down throw and a laundry bag with dryer sheets and a bottle of detergent.

Niki Femmer, graduate advertising/marketing major and graduate assistant for the University Center and SAC, said "Vegas Nite" was the most successful event last semester.

"We try to find cool prizes for cheap," Femmer said. "We try to get things that students want or need...like Charmin."

Last semester, the event offered alcoholic beverages to students 21 and over and mocktails provided by SAC, but Femmer said not many students were eligible to drink and the alcoholic beverages weren't a success. This time around, SAC and Campus Recreations commissioned PEZ to operate a mocktail bar. PEZ took a $100 budget and turned it into non-alcoholic pina coladas, margaritas and other fruity concoctions.

"People have to come to our office and let us know that they need us," said senior Daniela Munoz, a psychology major and PEZ member. Munoz said PEZ is always willing to provide drinks at Webster events, but they are seldom asked.

Nikki Bomar, senior advertising/marketing major and student program supervisor for Campus Recreation, said "Vegas Nite 2" was a lot easier to put on this semester compared to last semester. However, since the event had a turnout of more than 100 last semester, Bomar said they didn't want to change the event format.
