"I want this to be orderly and fair, just like any other conversation we've had about this," she said.
Eisele was referring to the Delta Upsilon fraternity, which, after much deliberation and controversy, was recognized at the meeting as the first Webster University fraternity by a vote of 16-5.
"I can't describe it. I'm overwhelmed right now," said freshman Kevin McWilliams, the advertising/marketing communications major who proposed the WU chapter of the fraternity with freshman audio production major
Evan Murray.
The fraternity is not yet an official Delta Upsilon chapter, though, said John Ginsburg, director of the University Center and student activities.
"The national office is waiting to see how SGA voted," he said. "They're now a group of intent and must go through the organization's process to become an official chapter."
The fraternity was first proposed at the Dec. 4 SGA meeting but was tabled for further discussion. Part of that discussion included a Facebook group called Frat Talk and an online survey for WU students, both created by At-Large Senator Jacob Gossage.
"It's important to see what everyone thought," McWilliams said of the Facebook group. "We had a lot of feedback, even from other universities."
SGA Vice President Heather Sweeney, a junior vocal performance and speech communications major, compiled the answers from the survey's comments box into a few main areas of concern students had about the fraternity - such as seclusion, hazing and partying - and provided a counter-argument for each one. Each fraternity member would be required to belong to at least one other campus organization to prevent seclusion, SGA would have the authority to remove members caught hazing, and members would be required to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5, full-time status and good standing with the university. In addition, Sergeant-At-Arms Brooke Benbenek will oversee communication between SGA and the fraternity.

No, what said Ashley is close minded people like you that will never understand what being part of a brotherhood/sisterhood really means. I pray for people like you who will always criticize when not knowing anything on the topic. (Continued…)

I think the idea is great! It is good diversity.Women don't have to be apart of everything that is said to be for men. I am for equal rights and all but I mean God! Sometimes genders do need things for themselves and the same stance for a man. (Continued…)

I think that the frat will be good for Webster. It's different, but I think that their student organization will only promote good things for the university. (Continued…)

As a Webster Alum and former member of SGA I think Greek Frats are the greatest idea I've ever heard. I love the idea of buying my way into a social group and then blindly supporting a group of people I don't know, calling them my brothers when I've never met any of them. (Continued…)

I am a recent Alum from Webster and I loved Webster for what it was and what it wasn't. I purposely did not apply to certain other schools (which will remain nameless with the exception of the one with the Tiger mascot)for a reason. (Continued…)

Folks,
I ask that you give it a chance, I was a member of a Fraternity at my previous school. It was a great bonding experience, and I knew everybody in my chapter, and several other chapters for that matter. (Continued…)
