"I wouldn't have been on (NPR) if I didn't move to New York," he said. "I never expected it."
A few days after being featured on NPR, Womack and June 16th started receiving worldwide recognition. Their song has had consistent sales on iTunes U.S. and iTunes Europe and their total MySpace song plays tripled within a week.
"NPR showed me what press really does," Womack said.
"Calm After the Storm" features Ohio rapper Alleyes Manifest and is the hit single off "Raydeeohh."
Womack and Krug produced the song's instrumental beats while Manifest sang harmonically over the track. "It's kind of like a spoken-word poem," Womack said.
The song took two weeks to record and "Raydeeohh" took a year to complete.
Every few weeks, the collaborative duo spent hours searching through nearly 10,000 records at Krug studio in Illinois trying to find appropriate samples and drum beats to include in their record.
"We wanted to use a science fiction theme for the album," Krug said.
After being featured on NPR's "Song of the Day," Womack started producing his second full-length album "The Face In A Crowd," which was released on Nov. 4, 2008.
Womack graduated in December and started traveling the U.S. to pursue different musical opportunities. So far, he's worked with national musicians like Super Geek League and Tucker Booth. Womack also started producing an original film score for two independent films which will be released at the end of 2009 and two follow-up albums to "The Face In a Crowd."
When Womack returns to St. Louis in the next few months, he plans to get a "nine-to-five" job and continue music in his free time.
"I'm going to pursue music no matter what," he said. "It's is my passion. It's what I love."
